Download Courses Without Leaving the Web — The Udemie Chrome Extension
Found a course you want to keep? You shouldn't have to copy its URL, switch windows, and paste it into another app. The Udemie Chrome extension sends the page you're already looking at straight to the Udemie desktop app—one click, no context switch.
Here's how to set it up and use it.
What it does
The extension detects when you're on a supported course page and hands its URL to your local Udemie app, which queues the download. That's it. To be clear about what it doesn't do: it never reads your cookies, headers, credentials, page content, or media requests. It only passes along the course URL you chose to send.
It works on:
- Udemy – course pages like
udemy.com/course/<name>/ - Coursera –
coursera.org/learn/<name> - LinkedIn Learning –
linkedin.com/learning/<name>
Before you start
The extension is a remote control for the desktop app—it doesn't download anything by itself. You'll need:
- The Udemie desktop app, installed and running.
- The extension, from the Chrome Web Store: Udemie Capture.
One-time setup (about a minute)
The app and the extension talk to each other over your own computer (localhost)—nothing goes through the internet for this. A short pairing token makes sure only your extension can talk to your app.
- Turn on the bridge in the app. Open Udemie, go to Settings → Browser Bridge, and enable it.
- Copy the pairing token shown there.
- Open the extension settings. Click the Udemie icon in Chrome's toolbar, then Settings (or right‑click the icon → Options).
- Paste the token into the Pairing token field and click Save.
- Click Test connection. The badge should turn to Connected. Done.
Don't see the token, or stuck on Checking? Make sure the desktop app is running and the Browser Bridge is enabled—the extension looks for the app locally on ports 17831–17840, so it only connects when the app is open.
Everyday use
Once paired, sending a course is instant. Two ways to do it:
From the popup
- Open any supported course page.
- Click the Udemie icon in the toolbar.
- The popup shows the detected platform and the current URL. Click Send to Udemie.
From the right‑click menu
- On a supported page—or on a link to one—right‑click and choose Send to Udemie. Handy for sending a course from a search results or catalog page without opening it first.
Either way, the course lands in your Udemie download queue, where quality, subtitles, and the rest follow your normal app settings.
Troubleshooting
- "Send to Udemie" is greyed out – The page isn't a recognised course URL. Open the actual course page (the one with
/course/,/learn/, or/learning/in the address) and try again. - Badge says Disconnected – The desktop app isn't running, or the Browser Bridge is off. Launch Udemie and re‑enable the bridge under Settings.
- It connected yesterday but not today – The pairing token can change if you regenerate it in the app. Copy the current token from Settings → Browser Bridge and paste it back into the extension's settings.
The short version
Install the app, enable the Browser Bridge, paste the token into the extension once—then every course is one click away, without ever leaving your browser.
